Legacy Academy Sugar Hill uses a balanced approach to the education of young children. Each day includes both child-initiated and teacher-directed activities. Legacy Academy values the interests and unique talents children bring to their learning environment. The children are given many opportunities to work on problems that are of interest to them, and to experience success in resolving the problems that arise from their own attempts to understand their world. The learning environment is designed to encourage children to participate in a variety of learning activities appropriate for their level of development. Play, learning centers, projects and other child-centered experiences provide opportunities to integrate literacy and social skills development. Our children are encouraged to become independent learners by making choices and accepting responsibility. In addition to a rich classroom environment, children participate in extracurricular activities such as foreign language, music, character education, and brain power challenges.

We adhere to the standards and practices set forth by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
We are proud to be a NAEYC accredited school. This distinguished honor is achieved by very few schools and is granted by NAEYC only upon successful completion of a rigorous accreditation process.
Early childhood programs accredited by NAEYC have voluntarily undergone a comprehensive process of internal self-study and have invited external professionals to verify compliance with the accreditation criteria. Specifically, this accreditation criterion assures our families that their children are receiving the highest quality childcare from a top-notch preschool.
Each Legacy Academy is individually owned and operated under the Legacy Academy Franchise System.
We significantly differentiate ourselves from our competition by maintaining a low staff to student ratio in each of our classrooms.
At Sugar Hill, our owners are on-site everyday, ensuring the smooth operation of the school.
At Legacy Academy Sugar Hill interactions between children and adults provide opportunities for children to develop an understanding of self and others and are characterized by warmth, personal response, individuality, positive support, and responsiveness. Teachers facilitate interactions among children to provide opportunities for development of self-esteem, social competence, and intellectual growth. Every opportunity is capitalized upon for our teacher / child interactions: during diaper changing, at meal time, through the incorporation of primary care groups, through individualized lesson plans and one-on-one activities.
At Legacy Academy Sugar Hill our curriculum "Framework for their Future", engages children actively in the learning process, provides a variety of developmentally appropriate learning experiences, and encourages children to pursue their own interests in the context of life in the community and the world. Interesting themes, combined with learning objectives called Key Experiences, help our teachers plan learning experiences in art, music, language, fine and gross motor, emergent math and literacy, movement and drama, science and social studies. We teach based on the premise that children learn through direct interactions with materials and interactions with adults who facilitate children's learning.
At Legacy Academy Sugar Hill our teachers and families work closely in partnership to ensure high quality care and education for children. We work with our families to ensure the activities performed at Legacy support and enhance the routines used at home. Our staff and parents align their expectations for each child. Parents feel supported and welcomed as observers and contributors to the program.

Legacy Academy Sugar Hill is staffed by adults who understand child and family development and who recognize and meet the developmental and learning needs of children and families. We are striving to staff our school with teachers who hold at minimum a CDA credential, and who wish to further their education and obtain an Associates or Bachelor's degree in the field of Early Childhood Education.
At Legacy Academy Sugar Hill our school is efficiently and effectively administered with attention to the needs and desires of children, families, and staff. Our Health and Safety coordinator ensure that monthly fire drills and quarterly tornado drills are conducted and that first aid supplies are maintained in each classroom. Our record keeping is second to none, ensuring an accurate audit trail: who received medication and when; who picked up and checked out every child every day; which teachers worked what shift on which days, and so on.

We are sufficiently staffed to meet the needs of and promote the physical, social, emotional and cognitive development of our children. Research strongly suggests that smaller group sizes and larger numbers of staff to children are related to positive outcomes for children such as increased interaction among adults and children; enhanced language, social and intellectual development in children; and less aggression, more cooperation among children. We significantly differentiate ourselves from our competition by maintaining a low staff to student ratio in each of our classrooms.

At Legacy Academy Sugar Hill our indoor and outdoor physical environment fosters optimal growth and development through opportunities for exploration and learning. We differentiate ourselves by taking the classrooms outdoors. Our playgrounds are used productively to promote learning. We have achieved this by adding sensory tables, art centers, literacy centers, a family garden, butterfly habitat, 9-hole putt-putt course, and much more to our playgrounds.

The health and safety of our children and adults are protected and enhanced. This area encompasses items such as when and how to properly wash your hands, the proper care and disinfecting of equipment both inside and outdoors, as well as routine and frequent fire and tornado drills which are conducted by our Health and Safety Coordinator. All of these components ensure that we provide a better, safer environment for your children.

At Legacy Academy Sugar Hill the nutritional needs of children and adults are met in a manner that promotes physical, social, emotional and cognitive development. We serve meals to our children family style. Lunch is an integral part of the learning day, not simply an activity to satisfy their hunger.

Systematic assessment of the effectiveness of the program in meeting its goals for children, families, and staff is conducted to ensure that good quality care and education are provided and maintained, and that the program continually strives for improvement and innovation. We know we run a high quality preschool and that our focus is on continual improvements. It is critical to our success to ensure that a 360 degree assessment is performed to reach the pinnacle of performance.
